Many people drift through life with no purpose and no goals. Research has shown that when you design your life based on living with purpose you live a longer, better, and happier life.
I like learning new things and meeting new people. I want to do something with my friends. I love almost any kind of outdoor activity. Perhaps one of the most import things I can do is helping others and reaching out to others to help them improve the quality of their lives.
Before you set goals you have to make sure you are doing something you really like. I set anti-goals. What are anti-goals? They are things I don’t want to do.
Here are some of mine:
I want to work from anywhere in the world and make enough money to do what I want, when I want. I want a passive income that will continue when I cannot work. I want what I do to benefit others while being something that interests me.
A job is very unlikely to give me the flexibility I want. Therefore, I have to develop a business that will provide me what I want. Then the question remains, what business model will help me fulfill my dreams.
The only business models I can think of involves the internet. I can be a sales rep for companies who will give me a commission on my sales. I can sell my own products. I can rep a company that will let me build a sales network and pay me a commission on the sales my network generates.
There is probably as many ways to make money on the internet as there are people trying to do internet marketing, But a word of warning. Most programs offering to teach you how to make a fortune on line are scams. I’ve found a few I have confidence in, and I have tested many that have just taken my money.
Hopefully, I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I have made.
Everyone has a segmented life. Our lives usually focus on specific interests:
In my work life, I want to create an internet business that will provide me the passive income I need to meet any crisis life throws at me.
In my personal life, I want to grow and learn new things. I am particularly fascinated with how technology can be use for good and evil.
My community service consists of trying to make my community more resilient in its ability to recover from a natural or human caused disaster.
I have had a life long commitment to conservation. The greatest threats to this earth are the Two C’s; Conflict and Climate Change. I work to leave a better environment for our kids.
I keep a journal. It helps me remember little things and know how I spend my time.
Each day I review what I accomplished. This is the format I use:
Each day I review what I have done and give my day a rating of 1-10. Then I decide what area of my life I must work on tomorrow and what small tasks I should complete to accomplish my most important goal.
A balanced life is a myth and a distraction. I try to lead a centered life. I focus on one part of my life each day. Sometimes I have to put more effort into work and neglect family. But maintaining close relationships with my family and friends is important to me. I cannot neglect family for long. I have to bring my focus back to my family.
I maintain my center by focusing on each aspect of my life for a week at a time. I got the idea from Benjamin Franklin. He wrote down a list of his values. Then he worked on each value for a month. Every year he would start over.
I mentioned the five areas of my life that are important to me. I focus on each one for a week. That doesn’t mean I ignore all the others, but they are left to the chaos of life.
The first thing I do every day is the one most important task I have determined I must work on that day. I may only work on it for half an hour. How long I spend on my most important task is determined by my work load.
Know your values and make sure what you are trying to accomplish is consistent with those values.
Have a clear mission in life. You will live longer and feel better about your life.
Set goals. Break those goals down into tasks that can be accomplished in a short time.
Work on the most important task at least half hour a day.
Maintain your center. Work on each aspect of your life and be sure not to neglect the things that are important to you.
The Side Hustle Revolution
What is the side hustle revolution and why should you be part of it?
In today’s economy, more and more jobs are being contracted. Freelancers and temp work is becoming the norm. By 2030 half of all workers are predicted to be working as contract hire. Long term employment will go to creative, team players who can show their expertise and accomplishments.
Even if you love your job, advancement will probably come by taking a more responsible position with a different business. When you are no longer growing in your present job, talk to your boss about how you can better serve the company. If your job is a dead end, it is time to look for another job.
Why do you need a side hustle?
We need resilience in our lives. We need an income adequate to deal with all the unforeseen emergencies we have in our lives. Whether it is an illness or a loss of a job, a side income that can be scaled up to deal with the emergency and make a world of difference. You need a passive income generated from multiple sources of income. A side hustle can provide that flexibility.
Your purpose in life will determine what your side hustle should be.
Having a side hustle can provide financial resilience in your life.
What kind of side hustle is appropriate to you? How can you determine if you are on the right path?
I believe you must live life with purpose. Know the one most important thing you want to accomplish in your life at any given time.
Be sure you understand your values. They should provide you guidance in choosing your purpose. Your values are well established by the time you are in your 20s. Your purpose will evolve with time. Some people call it mindfulness. Be sure to take the time to understand what is most important to you now.
What do you have to do now to accomplish your purpose? Your most important task is what you must work on today. Your purpose should be the inspiration for your side hustle.
Be consistent, work on your side hustle every day. How much time you can spend will depend on all the urgent stuff you must accomplish. You may only be able to devote a half hour to your side hustle. But be consistent. Work on your business a little bit every day.
The skills you need
Today, you cannot afford to ignore the internet. Whether you are an individual trying to advance your career, a local business trying to attract customers or a freelancer needing to develop a network of loyal clients you need a website and an audience who want what you offer.
Most importantly, you need to build a trusting, helpful relationship with people who share your interests. Never underestimate the power of saying thank you.
What is your definition of success? People look at success differently. For some it is having material things. For others success is a spiritual thing. Surveys of rich people show they are no happier as a group than anyone else. We have all heard the saying, “Money doesn’t bring happiness.” But, It sure can make it possible to live your dreams.
Productive authors know how long it will take for them to write 5000 words. They set a deadline and know they have to plan to write for a specific amount of time every day.
The key to success is knowing what is important in your life and working on the right thing at the right time. People with a written plan accomplish far more than those who leave their ideas floating around in their head.

Are personal core values important in our lives? It is a question worth asking, yet most people never think about what they value most in their lives. If honesty and loyalty are important to you, you are not going to cheat on your wife. If making money is your most important value you will follow The Art of the Deal.
Most people never think about their values. Their values influence them at a subconscious level. Often they will make decisions that are inconsistent with their values. If you value honest and take a job that requires you to lie you you are going to be stressed.
When you bring your values to your consciousness you will make better decisions and you will have a better life. Think about what you value most in your life. Make your personal values list and refer to it often. When you know what you value most in life your purpose will become clear. Research has shown people who live life with purpose live a longer, better life.
Do you value your freedom, your independence, your friends? Your values determine how you live your life. You can drift or you can paddle. I prefer to take control of my life and live with purpose. I want to help you live with passion in a world of peace, harmony and opportunity.
Successful people know what is important in their lives. They set goals that will help them accomplish their mission. They break their goals down into small tasks that can be accomplished in a short time. Then they focus on working on the one thing that is most important in their lives and completing a small task every day till they have achieved their goal. Then they set new goals and continue to pursue their calling.
What is your passion? Leave your comments below.
Goal setting is vital if you want to live your life with purpose. What is living with a purpose?
I encourage you to clearly understand you values. If you believe honesty, loyalty and compassion are important values in your life, you are not going to take a job where you have to lie and cheat
Your values will guide you mission. Your mission is you lifetime goal, but it will evolve as you grow. You will have lifetime goals in various aspects of your life. You may have a goal to maintain a healthy life style, a goal to create a $100K yearly income, and a goal to fishing with your kids at least once a month.
Based on your mission you will determine the niche you want to work on for the next month.
Based on you lifetime goals, know what you want to accomplish in the next year, the next quarter, the next month, the next week and today.
Review your goals daily as you decide the most important thing you must accomplish today. Then do that one thing consistently each day. You may not complete it in the short time you have to work on it, but work on it daily and you be taking tiny steps closer to your life time goal.
Work in short blocks of time and take a break frequently. I set a timer for no longer than an hour. When the timer goes off I take a break. I may take a walk, wave my dumbbells around or go pull weeds in the garden. Then I may pick up where I left off or start something new. The first thing I do after reviewing may daily goals is the one most important thing in my life at that moment. I may only be able to work on it for 15 minutes but at least have have taken a tiny step forward toward my goals.
Move forward everyday by consistently working on the most important thing in your life. One day it may be going to you kids soccer game. The next day it may be working on your website. Concentrate on the one most important thing in your life daily for a week and you will be surprised at your progress.
Write down your values.
Write out your mission statement
Set your goals for the year.
Decide what goals to set for the year
Decide what you must do this quarter to achieve your yearly goals.
Each month, decide what you must do to complete your quarterly goals.
Each week, review what you will do to achieve your monthly monthly goals.
Based on your monthly goals what will you work on this week
What will you do today that will move you forward towards accomplishing your weekly goals?
Set your plans for tomorrow at the end of each day. Ask yourself these questions:
The first three questions relate to planning. Questions 4 – 8 are possibly the most important because they help you understand how you feel about what you did. Those questions can help you uncover hidden thoughts that may be sabotaging your efforts to move forward. Question 9 helps you start tomorrow right. Question 10 helps fix in your mind what lessons you learned from today’s experiences. What can you do better tomorrow based on what you learned today.
Live your life with purpose and work on accomplishing your purpose a little bit every day. Don’t let the urgent things in your life crowd out the most important things in your life.
Have you ever thought about how to find a purpose in life? Perhaps you are one of those rare individuals who knows what is important to them and is on track to accomplishing the important things in there lives. Congratulations! When you understanding your core values you are looking into your soul.
Your values guide everything you do. They are your guide to understand what is most important to your life. If what you are doing is inconsistent with you values you need to take a look at what you are doing. Something has to change.
I’m not talking about you shiny new car or even your home. I’m talking about the values that form your personality.
Ben Franklin identified 13 things he valued in his life. Things like compassion, humility, temperance and loyalty. He would concentrate on improving one value for a week. Then he would move on to the next value and leave everything else to “their fair chance.”
It helped him develop good habits which served him throughout his life. His values also guided him in every decision he made in his life.
Reflect on your values daily. It is a form of mindfulness practice. Every evening reflect on what you accomplished during the day and why you did it. The “why” is more important than the “what” because the why keeps you on track toward your goals. When you know why you are doing something, you can decide if that activity should be continued.
When you know what is important to you in each part of your life you will understand what important thing you must be concentrate on today.
You can only do one thing at a time. Your todo list should be segmented into 3 categories.
“A” for tasks that lead to accomplishing those long term goals that are important in your life.
“B” tasks that are imposed on you by others.
“C” the rountine stuff of life that you need to block out time for but don’t need to schedule in your calendar.
The “B” and “C” stuff in our lives tend to overwhelm the “A” stuff yet the “A” stuff is the most important things in our lives. Schedule a half hour appointment with yourself every day to work on the most important thing in your life.
If the B and C stuff won’t let you schedule 30 minutes, schedule 15 minutes. Work on the most important thing in your life consistently every day and you will be surprised how much you get done by the end of the week.
People who live a purposful life live longer, better and happier lives.
Many people only work on the urgent and routine things in their lives. They never find themselves and what is important to them. Take time to reflect on your day. Know what is important to you and why it is important. Schedule time every day to work one that one thing that is the most important thing in your life.
You will be happier, less stressed and live longer when you live your life with purpose. Don’t waste the time you have on earth. Time is your life. Time is the one thing you cannot get more of.
